Question: I live in Bangor, ME 04468 and currently have a flea
infestation. The cat has been unresponsive to Frontline and the fleas
continually feed on the cat and us.
The home, divided into 4 apartments, we live in is a small one bedroom. I
was wondering what sort of preventive measures would Orkin take to get rid
of the fleas and what we should do as well.
Also, approximately how much would a visit cost?
Thank you
ANSWER There are other on-animal products available (with different active ingredients), so you might try one of those on the cat.
Household flea control begins with treating the animal, then treating the house. Both steps have to be done and they have to be done together, or at least the pet should be the first treated.
Pet. There are some very effective on-animal flea control products, either from the veterinarian or one of the over-the-counter products. The pet or pets must be treated first before you can hope to rid the house (carpeting) of fleas. Be sure to wash or replace the pet's bedding at the same time.
House. Vacuuming the carpet is critical. Vacuuming helps remove the eggs that drop there from the fleas on the pet, and maybe a few larvae. Vacuuming also causes the adult fleas to come out of their cocoons so they are exposed to the carpet treatment. Continue to vacuum for several days after the carpet has been treated.
On the day of the treatment, be sure the carpet is cleared - everything picked up. Plan to be out after the treatment for a few hours while the treatment dries on the carpeted areas.
It may seem to be an easy task to provide an estimate for the cost of service via e-mail. However, insect problems and infestations are different, each house is different, and the conditions of each property are different. Thus quotes and estimates for the cost of control are best done locally and perhaps with an inspection by a service technician.
You should contact the local Branch office of Orkin for estimates on the cost of pest control service and for scheduling service.
