Question: I found dropping in my attic. I need descriptions of droppings
for Rats/mice, squirrels & cockroaches.
ANSWER Cockroach droppings will be small (about 1/8 inch) and dark brown. Rodents (mice, rats, squirrels) produce droppings that are one-quarter to three-quarters of an inch long, more or less cylindrical (tapered ends) and dark brown to black. Rodents droppings often contain hairs because the animals groom themselves frequently.
Here is a quick comparison of the droppings that are found (and confused) most often:
Mouse: 1/8 - 1/4", one or both ends tapered
Norway Rat: up to 3/4", blunt ends
Roof Rat: 1/2 - 3/4", tapered ends
Large roach: 1/8 - 1/4" ridges, blunt ends, no hairs in droppings
