How Long Does it Take to Get Rid of Cockroaches?

The length of time it takes to rid your home of a cockroach infestation depends largely upon species, size of population and method of control employed. However, cockroach infestations are rarely resolved quickly. These pests are extremely adaptable and may even be resistant to some home extermination methods.

If administered correctly, chemical insecticides can greatly diminish a cockroach population. If used incorrectly, over-the-counter insecticides can be harmful to children and pets. They may also damage furniture. Boric acid is a popular do-it-yourself method for killing cockroaches, although it requires a great deal of time to prove effective. The same is true for diatomaceous earth.

Cockroach baits are an alternative if you have pets and children. Bait remains where it is applied and many forms are tamper-resistant. The active ingredient within cockroach baits kills specimens within a few days. However, baits are only as effective as their placement and are not a quick solution for substantial infestations.

The most rapid and effective pest control methods are those administered by trained pest control professionals. Contact your local expert to discuss extermination options.
