Appearance:

Approximately 1/2-inch in length, the American cockroach is the largest of structure-infesting spefcies. Their bodies are reddish brown with light markings on the thorax. The American cockroach is a winged insect.

Habit:

American cockroaches prefer warm, damp areas and are more likely to be seen in daytime and outdoors than other cockroach species. They are commonly seen near food preparation areas.

Diet:

American cockroaches are scavengers and will consume any food source available to them.

Reproduction:

Female American cockroaches mate only once to produce many egg capsules. These capsules contain approximately 13 eggs each. Nymphs molt 13 times in the approximately 600 developmental days before maturity. Adult American cockroaches can live up to 15 months.
