Junior Pest Investigators

Junior Pest Investigators is an online resource designed to help kids and teachers discover environmentally responsible ways to help prevent insects, bugs and rodents from entering our spaces and becoming pests. You’ll find four fun and interesting lesson plans for your grade level, along with teacher materials such as grading rubrics, quizzes and assessment tools. Whether you teach kindergarten, first, second, third, fourth, fifth or sixth grade, you’ll benefit from the well thought out inquiry-based lessons that meet national science standards. We are glad you’re interested in “Discovering Greener Pest Control at School and Home,” and encourage you to contact us today if you have any questions.

Through this series of four innovative lessons and supporting materials, turn your students into Junior P.I.’s who put pests (ants, bed bugs, roaches, termites) under surveillance and uncover the essentials of Integrated Pest Management (IPM), a smarter, greener and more effective approach to keeping unwanted pests out of our learning and living spaces. Bring science to life through creative, content-rich, “real-world” investigations that put IPM into action in school and at home.

Junior Pest Investigators for Teachers includes the grading rubric, National Science Standards Correlations, assessment menu, group and individual assessments and student self-assessment materials. All Junior Pest Investigator materials meet national science standards.

“I am so thankful that Orkin made such wonderful educational materials free to educators. The experience my science club had learning about what pests are, doing an investigative walk through our school to locate possible pest problems, and then being able to put together ‘greener’ ways to solve pest problems in our classroom and homes has been invaluable.”
