Residents and pests alike enjoy the warm weather and riverside location of West Columbia, SC. Female mosquitoes annoy locals by feeding on their blood. Besides being itchy and unpleasant, mosquito bites can spread numerous diseases. Spiders also thrive in the city’s hot, humid climate. While most house spiders are simply nuisances, the area also hosts harmful species like the southern black widow and brown recluse. Their painful bites contain venom that may cause scarring, muscle spasms, and difficulty breathing, among other symptoms.
Cockroaches, locally called palmetto bugs, invade West Columbia homes and hide in kitchen cupboards, basements, and bathrooms. These pests feed on stored goods, leaving their droppings and shed skins behind. People who eat contaminated food can contract salmonella or have serious allergic reactions. Bed bugs also cause problems in the area by sneaking into homes on secondhand furniture or in luggage. In addition to staining sheets and furniture with blood, bed bugs leave itchy rashes on people’s skin as a result of their bites.
The Orkin Man arrived at the time of my choice, as promised, and handled the inspection personally. I appreciate this extra effort and the courtesy shown to me during the last appointment.
The Orkin Man installed a moisture barrier under the home of a customer. He found a gas leak and told the owner she should call the gas company, which she did at once. A representative of the company found the leak after several hours of checking the lines. He found the leak, she later wrote, which he termed a ‘one-in-a-million accident’ with a regulator that could easily have blown up everything here. He credits you with saving my life, and so do I.”
Last month when the Orkin Man did my reinspection, he had to add patience to his thoroughness. My 1 1/2-year-old son made the rounds with him and wanted to look everywhere he looked. When he finished, my son got his coat on too and was ready to go to the next appointment with him.
The Orkin Men assigned to service my home rendered outstanding work. I want to say thank you all.
