Yesterday, the Orkin man took an opportunity to do a random act of kindness. I was stuck in the middle lane on Sterling Boulevard. My hazards were not working, and cars were coming behind me quickly before they noticed that my car had died. He looked over and saw that I was crying. He immediately took over. I explained to him that I had a three-month-old baby in the back seat and was scared for her safety. He tried pushing my car out of the middle lane, but it was stuck in park. He proceeded to get behind my car and wave traffic away. He put himself in danger to ensure we wouldn’t get rear-ended. I explained to him that my husband usually saves the day in circumstances like this, but he is in Iraq. The Orkin Man calmed me down and had me call 911 and then AAA. He directed traffic until the police officers came. Then, he waited for the tow truck. He gave me his number and told me to call him so he’d be sure everything turned out okay, and that my baby and I were safe. I told him that I would like to call his boss. He said that wasn’t necessary. He really didn’t want any recognition, just to be of help. There were so many people who drove by me and didn’t stop or even glance my way to see if I needed help. The Orkin Man was the only one who cared enough to stop and help me. He didn’t even know the circumstances about the baby. I was so grateful for his help I called his boss anyway. I, also, told my husband, who is my hero, what he had done for me and the baby. My husband said the Orkin Man was his hero for helping out his most prized possessions while he is overseas. Thank you for being a hero. You made a difference, and we won’t forget your kindness.

I had a roast on in the oven in a baking dish. In the middle of the afternoon, I went to check on it and found the upper part of the house full of dense flames emanating from the kitchen. I opened the oven door to take a look and was met by a face full of flames. I screamed ‘fire!’. The Orkin Man dashed up the stairs, opened the oven door, and saw the flames. He quickly got a box of baking soda and threw it on the flames to put out the fire in the oven bottom where grease from the roast was still burning fiercely. He then got pot holders and took the still flaming roast out of the oven and put it in the sink. Throughout the whole affair, he remained calm and collected. I fully believe he saved the house from going-up in flames. My husband and I feel the Orkin Man is a most unusual young man and one who should go far in your organization. He is dedicated and efficient, as well as courageous. He has renewed our faith in the younger generation.
