Black Jumping Spiders

Jumping spiders, a large group of spiders with many species in the United States, earned their name from their amazing hunting behaviors, as these spiders tend to stalk and leap upon their prey. They are visual predators with large eyes. Their coloration varies depending on species and ranges from black to bright metallic blues and even red.

These spiders are very beneficial as they are voracious predators of insects and other creatures found in outdoor vegetation and surrounding areas. They may be accidentally brought indoors on plants or on clothing if the person has brushed against plants. They are capable of biting but typically would only bite if crushed. Their venom is not viewed as a medically threatening to humans.
