Brown Recluse Spider Cancer

Necrotic wounds are often misdiagnosed as being the result of a brown recluse spider bite. These wounds are also referred to as brown recluse spider cancer as a result, although the victim may never have come into contact with a brown recluse spider.

Skin irritation can be caused by a variety of medical conditions including cutaneous anthrax, Lyme disease, flesh eating bacteria, staph infection and cancer. Bites or stings from insects or other arthropods or, such as ants, bees, scorpions, and wasps, are also capable of producing wounds.  Misdiagnosis of skin irritation can lead to delays in appropriate treatment and can prove extremely harmful to affected patients. For example, tick-borne illnesses such as Lyme disease can be treated if recognized in time; untreated Lyme disease can prove fatal.
