Chaco Golden Stripe Tarantula

The Chaco golden stripe tarantula is a very large species: its leg span can exceed eight inches. It is second in size only to the goliath tarantula. Despite their formidable size, Chaco golden stripe tarantulas are relatively pleasant in demeanor.

The body of the Chaco golden stripe tarantula is covered in light-colored and pink hair, while the legs bear unmistakable golden bands. Juveniles do not exhibit these colors until they have undergone a number of molts.

Chaco golden stripe tarantulas are terrestrial in nature and prefer humidity levels above 70 per cent. They live in underground burrows and feed on crickets, cockroaches, mealworms and mice.

Also known as the Chaco golden knee, the Grammostola aureostriata is a New World tarantula and possesses urticating hairs. However, unlike other tarantula species, the Chaco golden stripe tarantula rarely utilizes these barbed hairs in self-defense.
