Jumping Spider Habitat

Depending on the type and origin of a jumping spider species, habitat can vary widely. Jumping spiders belong to the largest family among spiders, which occupies 13 per cent of the entire spider kingdom. They are distributed throughout the world and can be found near the windows of North American homes or in the heights of the Himalayas. Some jumping spider habitats include deserts, scrublands, littoral zones and tropical forests, where they reside within leaves and wood bark.

Salticus scenicus, also known as the zebra jumping spider, are common household spiders. Another common household jumping spider is the Saitis barbipes. However, these spiders can also be seen dwelling in outdoor locations near rocks. Inside the house, jumping spiders are found in areas inhabited by insects, such as windowsills, walls and planters.
