Tarantula Natural History

There are over 800 documented tarantula species, all of which belong to the Family Theraphosidae.

Tarantulas are larger and darker in color than other spiders. Specimens may reach over one foot in length. Tarantulas also possess different jaw structures than most arachnids and bear patches of hair at the bottom of their limbs. Most tarantula species have eight eyes, although cave-dwelling species may be eyeless. The tarantula's hunting methods are also unique and include ambush attacks, as well as capture through luring techniques.
