Tarantula Spider Bite

Although tarantulas typically evoke terror in humans, their bites are rarely dangerous. In fact, no deaths have been recorded as a result of a tarantula bite. Extreme symptoms do occur in the event of allergic reactions.

Due to the size of the tarantula and its fangs, a bite may produce immediate and severe pain. Bleeding may result from a tarantula bite. Victims are advised to allow blood to flow freely from these wounds and to cleanse the affected area in order to remove debris and microscopic hair particles. The hair of the tarantula causes itching and discomfort in human skin and may further irritate open wounds. The bite site should be washed and antiseptic ointment might be appropriate. Watch for signs of infection and allergic reaction. If discoloration or soreness seems to get worse, seek medical attention.
