Yellow Sac Spider Bite
Yellow sac spiders become aggressive and bite when they feel trapped or threatened. Although some individuals may not experience any pain from the bite of a yellow sac spider, most victims report instant, intense stinging. At the bite location, yellow sac spiders inject cytotoxic venom similar to that of the brown recluse. Localized redness, swelling and itching often occur.
Immediately following a yellow sac spider bite, the wound should be sanitized with soap, water and hydrogen peroxide. An antiseptic such as iodine can prevent secondary infections, while application of an ice pack wrapped in cloth can reduce swelling. Painkillers are useful for alleviation of stinging.
Although rare, serious cases of yellow sac spider bites may result in necrotic lesions, fevers, chills, dizziness, headaches, nausea and shock. In the event of these symptoms, a medical professional should be contacted.
