Humane Rat Control

Humane rat control methods include the use of natural essential oils to repel rats from certain areas. However, natural deterrents are only moderately effective. They tend only to work for a number of days and require extremely widespread application.  Rat populations return to treated areas as soon as the potency of these oils wears off.

Those concerned with humane rat control tend to have varying opinions about the use of glue and classic snap traps, as one catches but does not kill the rodent, while the other offers a swift and arguably painless death.

Repellents and traps cannot exterminate a rat infestation. Chemical methods may be required. It is advised that any repellant efforts be used in concert with the extermination methods of a pest control professional.
