Natural Rat Deterrent
Peppermint oil is said to deter rats from entering treated areas. In high concentrations, peppermint oil may keep rats away for a number of days. Shrubs high in alkaloid content, such as wormwood, may also prove to be effective natural rat deterrents. These natural, scent-based deterrents are most potent when applied in tandem with neighbors.
The best natural rat deterrent is cleanliness. Food scraps are highly attractive to rats and garbage areas are often infested. Keeping trash sealed tightly and ensuring that no food crumbs or residue is available around your home can prevent rat infestations.
Although deterrents may prevent a rat infestation, eradication requires treatment. In the event of an existing infestation, contact your local pest control professional to discuss extermination methods.
