Alternative and Natural Termite Treatment Methods

Although professional extermination is often required to eradicate an existing termite infestation, there are a number of alternative treatments that can be administered before or in conjunction with professional methods.

Professionals consider prevention to be the most successful pest control. In building a new home, pretreating the ground before the foundation is put down will help reduce termite problems in the future. Controlling moisture within a home can also prevent infestation.

Baited traps may prove helpful in confirming suspected infestations and in identifying high-activity areas. Baits use slow-acting insecticides or growth inhibitors which, when brought back to the termite nest, act to kill and sterilize colonies. However, these treatments are long-term solutions and you may not notice a decreased termite population for weeks or months.
