Measures of Termite Control

Termites are found throughout the continental United States, but thrive primarily in warm, southern climates. Over the years, research scientists and professional exterminators have developed many measures of termite control. The most appropriate extermination method depends upon the severity of infestation and species of termite involved. In order to ensure the success of any treatment, it is best to let a professional conduct an inspection prior to attempting any control methods.

Preliminary methods may include traditional inspections of at-risk areas with flashlights and screwdrivers. More modern methods involve the use of infrared and microwave scanners that detect heat and damage within walls. These methods are unobtrusive and have a high rate of accuracy.  These methods can be expensive as well.

After identifying type and severity of termite infestation within a structure, exterminators utilize a combination of fast- and slow-acting approaches and chemical treatments to eradicate colonies. Slow-acting baits target reproductive members of an infestation and gradually sterilize and poison entire populations. Fast-acting insecticide sprays target specific, at-risk areas and kill affected insects.
