A Guide to Outstanding Pest Control Performance

Pest control is an important part of every major food safety audit, accounting for up to 20 percent of a facility’s total score. Complete this checklist to help prepare your facility for an outstanding pest control score on your next third-party audit.

  • Review auditor’s requirements with your Orkin Commericial Pest Specialist.

  • Review on-site documentation with your Orkin Commericial Pest Specialist.
    • Pesticide usage logs are complete and up-to-date.
    • Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and labels are on file for all pesticides used on-site.
    • Floor plan/schematic includes up-to-date placement of all pest control devices.
    • Pest sighting logs and trend data are up-to-date.
    • Service reports are complete
    • Corrective action reports are complete (pest activity, sanitation, housekeeping and building maintenance issues).
    • Certifications, licenses and insurance information are available.
    • Original scope of service is on-hand and up-to-date.
    • Annual Facility Assessment is on file (Annual QA Inspection Report).
    • Quarterly pest control program evaluations are complete and the reports are on site.

  • Walk the interior of the facility with your Orkin Commericial Pest Specialist.
    • All pest control devices are identified correctly on the floor plan.
    • All devices conform and are placed in accordance with the auditor’s requirements.
    • All interior devices are serviced at least once a week.
    • All devices are labeled with service information.
    • Fly lights, if used, are properly positioned.

    • All devices are identified correctly on the floor plan.
    • All devices conform and are placed in accordance with the auditor’s requirements.
    • All rodent bait stations are tamper-resistant and secured to the ground.
    • All exterior devices are serviced at least once a month.
    • All devices are labeled with service information.
    • Rodent baits in exterior rodent bait stations are secured.
    • Rodent baits are in good shape and not heavily chewed/missing.
    • Rodent bait stations are free of decomposed rodents or other animals.
    • Rodent burrows are eliminated from the property.
    • Bird nests are eliminated from the property.
    • Bird exclusion tactics are in place, if required by auditor.
