Midwest Pest Threat

Keep on the watch for cockroaches, fleas, bedbugs, nonbiting flies, spiders and rodents attempting to enter the home. There will also be some ant activity during warmer days.

Mosquito activity is on the rise. Be on the lookout for fleas, as well as ticks that can cause Lyme disease. Household ants now include carpenter ants. Termite swarming will be visible in the spring.

Early mosquito activity can be expected in later spring. Carpenter ants and other household ants, as well as rodents may attempt to invade the home. Carpenter ant swarm activity and carpenter bees, wasps, yellow jackets, hornets, spiders, fleas, ticks and occasional invaders will be visible in the summer.

Be aware of rodents; mainly mice that are moving inside. Some mosquito populations survive into October. Nonthreatening pests like boxelders and cluster flies are also abundant. Bees and wasps are on the move.
