Mice may make their nests within walls if small cracks or openings are available. However, other pests, such as snakes and insects, may also reside within walls. It is important to properly identify your pest as a mouse prior to attempting extermination methods.
Droppings and tracks are often visible in homes experiencing mouse infestations. Holes are also visible in walls, floors, ceilings and foundations. Due to their nesting and feeding habits, mice cause significant damage to human food sources and wooden surfaces. Bite or chew marks in these areas often indicate the presence of mice.
After properly identifying a mouse infestation, traps may used to lure and exterminate individual specimens. Spring-loaded traps, electronic traps, glue traps and live-catch traps are commercially available. Some are designed to kill captured rodents, while others require homeowners to release mice outside.
However, it is advised that homeowners experiencing a rodent infestation contact their local pest control professionals to discuss extermination methods. Mice are constant breeders and populations grow much more quickly than they can be exterminated through the use of traditional methods.
