Understanding Black Vine Weevils
Size: Approximately 12 mm in length and ovoid in shape.
Characteristics: The antennae of these weevils feature elbows, their wings bear small pits, and they possess short snouts.
Color: They range from brown to gray in color and are covered with tiny hairs.

The black vine weevil is present in much of the northern United States, and is found throughout the state of Ohio.
Females emerge in early summer and will feed for about a month before laying eggs. She may lay almost 200 eggs in her life. The eggs hatch and the larvae feed on the roots of the plant. Larvae spend the winter in a dormant state and will pupate the following spring.
