Answer: The first sign of termites in homes usually is finding termite wings left behind by termite swarmers, most often which are found around windows, doors and other sources of light. Other termite signs include mud tubes constructed by subterranean termite, piles of wood pellets from drywood termites and soft, damp wood caused by dampwood termites.

Other indicators of termites can include:

• Discoloration of drywall

• Hollow sounding wood

• Wood that is easily penetrated by a pointed tool such as a screwdriver or ice pick
